Need a Fee Waiver?

Students eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch can receive a Fee Waiver for the SAT and/or the ACT. Fee waivers will not work after the Regular registration deadline. Fee Waivers are available in the CTO (room 635)

Need to Take a Prep Class?

Sign up for the Princeton Review SAT Prep Class or the Revolution Prep ACT Prep Course. You should have received emails about this, but if you haven’t, come to the CTO. These courses are each discounted at $399.00 for Bard Students until February 15th.  There are significant scholarships available and no student should be afraid of applying because they cannot pay for it. Additionally, in the CTO we keep a list of Free and Low-Cost SAT prep that is run through NYC.

 

2. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:  Camp Cardiac- New York 2012 – Free Program

Scholarship and standard applications are now open for Camp Cardiac-New York 2012, and we invite your students to apply by visiting http://www.campcardiac.org .
This 1-week summer day camp is open to high school students (including 2012 graduates) ages 15 years and older (as of the start of the camp) interested in exploring careers in medicine. 3. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:  WRITE A PLAY! NYC – Deadline March 1, 2012

Write A Play NYC, the New York City Playwriting Competition, is open to all NYC students. Plays are judged in three categories: elementary, middle, and high school. All entrants receive a Certificate of Achievement, a written evaluation of the play, and an invitation to the annual Awards Ceremony.

GUIDELINES

  • Plays must be submitted by students, not teachers.
  • There are no restrictions on length, style, or subject, but collaborations of more than three writers will NOT be accepted.

4. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:   New York State Summer School of the Arts – Still accepting Late applications for Choral Studies and Orchestral Studies 3-Week Summer Program

The Summer Schools of the Arts are directed and staffed by internationally acclaimed artists and companies such as the New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra. Students work in small groups and in one-on-one sessions with professionals and with other students of similar ability. The program is open to all high school age students who qualify through auditions. Tuition assistance, based upon financial need, is available. No students who qualify are denied NYSSSA’s opportunities because they cannot afford them. NYSSSA represents the wide spectrum of cultural, ethnic, social, and economic that is New York State.

5. ATTENTION ALL FEMALE STUDENTS:   Smith College Summer Science and Engineering Program for Girls – DEADLINE March 1st

The 2012 SSEP is open to academically talented girls who will enter grades 9, 10, 11 or 12 in fall 2012. Enrollment in the program is limited to ensure the quality of the academic experience. The SSEP has a selective admissions process, based on academic performance in middle and/or high school, a written essay and a teacher recommendation. The program welcomes applications from students with all levels of previous science training. Students need not have taken advanced science courses but must have a strong record of academic achievement, a high level of motivation and a willingness to explore.

Significant Financial Aid Is Available for many students.

6. ATTENTION ALL FEMALE STUDENTS: Sadie Nash Summer Institute – Summer Program with Stipend – DEADLINE February 17th 2012

The Summer Institute requires an initial commitment of six weeks.  There is a stipend attached. The summer program lasts for six weeks from July 5th – August 12th, 2012 Monday through Friday from 10:00am until 4:00pm (on Fridays, we have special events and the hours are different).  The Summer Institute is located in Manhattan.  There will be required pre-session orientation meetings in early June to prepare you for the summer, and to provide an opportunity to meet staff and to get to know each other.  During the summer you and your peers will take interesting classes, meet women involved in different forms of leadership, take workshops on issues that are important to you, go on trips and explore your own and others’ leadership.

2. Sports Journalism Institute of the Boston Globe – All Expense Paid program at Princeton University – Deadline February 15th

This is an all-expenses-paid summer program for high school student journalists from low-income backgrounds that will take place for 10 days in August on the campus of Princeton University. The program is entering its 11th year; since 2002, more than 200 students from high schools across the country have been selected to participate in the program. They were taught by journalists from The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Miami Herald, The New Republic and The New Yorker; they covered Yankees, Mets, Jets and Liberty games and held a press conference with New Jersey’s secretary of state; they met with Princeton University’s president and dean of admissions; they received counseling on their college applications from our staff, which consists of Princeton University alumni and undergraduates; and they published their own newspaper.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • They must currently be Y1′s
  • They must have at least an unweighted 3.5 grade point average (out of 4.0).
  • They must have an interest in journalism.
  • The combined income of their custodial parent(s)/guardian(s) plus child support payments, if any, must not exceed $45,000.

PROGRAM DEADLINE: Bard Center for Civic Engagement Essay Contest will occur on Jan

The Bard Center for Civic Engagement announces an essay contest for students in the Bard network of institutions:  The world’s seven billionth person was born on October 31, 2011 “What would you tell the world’s seven-billionth person so that s/he can be a responsible global citizen?”
The contest seeks submissions of 500 – 1000 words that address issues of interest to people worldwide, including challenges and potential solutions for the next generation. Multi-media submissions will also be considered. Student submissions are encouraged from the Bard network of institutions, including: Al-Quds/Bard Honors College for Liberal Arts and Sciences; American University of Central Asia; Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson); Bard College Graduate Programs (Annandale-on-Hudson); Bard College at Simon’s Rock; Bard High School Early Colleges (Manhattan, Queens, Newark); Bard Early College of New Orleans; Bard Graduate Center for Decorative Arts; Bard Master of Arts in Teaching Programs (New York City, California, West Bank); Bard Prison Initiative campuses; International Center for Photography; Paramount Bard Academy; and Smolny College/Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, St. Petersburg State University and our other partners.Three first place winners will be chosen.
* Each first place winner will win $500.
* An honorable mention award of $50 will be given to the best submission from each Bard network institution.
* Each first place winner will receive a Bard Center for Civic Engagement Excellence Award.
* Each first place winner will be featured on a panel at Bard’s Annandale-on-Hudson campus that will be simulcast.
* All winners and honorable mentions will have their entries featured on the Center for Civic Engagement website.

1. “Tackling Test Taking Anxiety” Workshop Series

A 4-part workshop that will prepare students to take their final exams by giving them techniques to manage their test anxiety.  For all students.

2. Blood Drive 

Students must be 16 years or older to donate blood. Any student who is 16 years of age must submit a parent-signed permission slip in advance of giving blood.  Please remind students to eat before they donate blood. Students are strongly encouraged to come during their free or lunch periods. Faculty and staff  are encouraged to donate blood too.  AS A THANK YOU, ALL BLOOD DONORS WILL RECEIVE TWO (2) FREE MOVIE TICKETS.
